The Deer, with long clawed arms, looms over two avatars holding an axe and a rifle on a log at night

This 99 Nights in the Forest guide covers what to do in your first nights: feed the campfire, make a flashlight, stay out of the Deer's way and go after the four missing kids. The game's own page says very little, so we checked every tip against at least two fan wikis and say where they disagree. Numbers from Roblox's own data are dated October 10, 2026.

TL;DR: Gather by day, defend by night, and keep the campfire lit. The campfire is your only safe zone; the Deer can't be killed, but a flashlight stuns it. Four kids are hidden in caves guarded by wolves and bears, and each rescue shortens the game. Servers hold 25 players, and 249,570 people were playing when we checked.

99 Nights in the Forest guide: the short version

Your first job is the campfire. Fan wikis agree it is the only place the Deer won't follow you at night, and it goes out if you stop feeding it. Craft a flashlight next, because its light stuns the Deer long enough to run. Once your camp is safe, rescue the four missing kids: every rescue cuts the nights you have left.

99 Nights in the Forest: key takeaways

  • The loop: "gather by day, defend by night, and keep your campfire lit," as one fan wiki puts it.
  • The Deer can't be killed. Weapons do nothing; light does.
  • Campfire levels: six of them, according to the community wiki. A bigger fire opens more of the map.
  • Rain starts after day 5 and makes the fire burn faster, per the same wiki.
  • Four kids, four caves. Each rescue shortens the game.
  • Diamonds buy classes. One fan wiki says "A good class makes the early nights much easier."
  • Roblox rates it Minimal, with occasional mild fear.

Overview: what 99 Nights in the Forest is

The developer's whole description on Roblox is three lines: "Build a camp with friends. Something is watching you. 99 Nights in the Forest." It is made by Grandma's Favourite Games, a verified Roblox group that describes itself as "A group of 3 friends from New Zealand who develop games: ForyxeV, Viridial, and Cracky4."

Roblox's own data (read through a mirror of its API on October 10, 2026) gives the rest:

What this guide covers: the first days and nights, the campfire, the Deer, the missing kids and classes. What it doesn't: late-game builds, exact item recipes and codes. The mechanics below come from fan wikis (99-nights.wiki, the community wiki on Miraheze and 99nightsintheforestwiki.wiki), because the developer's page doesn't explain them. We could not open the developer's Discord, X or YouTube from our network, so nothing here is a developer quote beyond the game page and group. Where the wikis disagree, we tell you.

Step-by-Step: your first nights in 99 Nights in the Forest

1. Learn the loop. 99-nights.wiki sums the game up as "gather by day, defend by night, and keep your campfire lit." By day the forest is mostly safe for gathering, crafting and exploring. At night the Deer comes out and hunts anyone outside the campfire's light. Plan every trip around getting back before dark.

2. Feed the campfire before anything else. The community wiki calls the campfire "a constantly depleting fire that is a safe zone for players during nighttime." You keep it alive and level it up by adding fuel: "Logs, Coal, Fuel Canisters, Biofuel, etc." It has six levels, and each upgrade "expands your playable area by unlocking new parts of the map." The same page lists 6 logs for level 2, then 11 logs, 7 or more coal and 2 or more fuel canisters for level 3. Standing close to the fire also heals you, per the wiki's tips.

3. Craft a flashlight. 99-nights.wiki calls it "your most important tool," because "its light stuns the Deer long enough to escape." Keep one on you every night. The same wiki warns that the Deer "recovers faster each time you stun it," so a flashlight buys you a head start, not safety.

4. Spend the night inside the light. Both the 99-nights.wiki Deer guide and the community wiki say the Deer will not enter the campfire's safe zone while the fire is lit. On Day 1 it is "completely harmless and won't hunt you," so use that first day to gather as much as you can. If the game warns "The Deer is hungry tonight," head back early: a hungry Deer is faster and hits harder.

5. Never let the fire go out at night. The community wiki is blunt about this one: "If the campfire goes out, unless it's day 1, the deer will automatically get hungry and spawn next to the campfire." A dead fire also removes your map, which makes finding the way back much harder.

6. Upgrade your crafting station. Fan guides describe crafting at a station next to camp that you level up over time. One guide says upgrading the Crafting Bench "to Tier 3 … unlocks the Crock Pot," which helps with food. The community wiki's older crafting page (last edited in 2025) describes putting materials into a "Grinder" east of the campfire instead, so names may differ depending on which version a guide was written for.

7. Go after the four missing kids. "Four children are hidden around the map, guarded by wolves and bears in caves," says 99-nights.wiki, and "Every kid you rescue reduces the nights you need to survive." The community wiki puts it as "The day counter increases by 1 for each child rescued." Go as a group: caves are guarded.

8. Spend your Diamonds on a class. Diamonds buy classes, and classes change what you start with. The community wiki (a 2025 page) says "every 24 hours, a random selection of Classes are in stock," and that "Scavenger is the only class that doesn't spawn with a starter item." Diamonds also come from badges. Leveling the campfire to tier 3 earns the Firemaking I badge, worth 2 Diamonds, per the wiki.

Tips for 99 Nights in the Forest

These tips come from the same fan wikis, and they are the ones that make the early game easier.

Switch from logs to coal after level 3

The community wiki says logs have a "small effect on the campfire (less than 1% per log)" once it reaches level 3, so it recommends coal or fuel canisters instead. Save the logs for crafting.

Watch the weather

"Rain can only occur after 5 days," per the community wiki, and rain "Drastically increases fire burnout rate." Trees chopped in the rain drop wet logs that can't go into the fire. Thunder can show up after 10 days, and lightning can hurt you.

Get off the ground when chased

99-nights.wiki suggests climbing ladders ("halfway up works"), rooftops or other high spots, and adds that wolves "spawn on the ground and can't reach you."

Tame a wolf

According to 99-nights.wiki, a tamed Wolf "fights alongside you," and you need a Taming Flute to get one. Its own guide calls two Wolves "a common early-game setup."

Know what else is out there

The Deer is not the only threat. 99-nights.wiki says it is "one of five monster entities: the Deer, the Ram, the Owl, the Bat, and the Cat," and that cultists "who worship the Deer attack your camp in raids." The game's current icon shows a horned, goat-faced monster holding a pumpkin-headed scarecrow, so expect some of these to show up as you play further.

Split the jobs before night falls

With up to 25 people in a server, decide early who chops, who cooks and who fuels the fire. Players notice when this goes wrong: one r/roblox player said they like the game "especially with friends," but "I hate it when I'm on a team and they're immediately using buffs and force u to chop wood or cook fish soup."

Common mistakes in 99 Nights in the Forest

  • Trying to fight the Deer. 99-nights.wiki: "Weapons are useless against the Deer. It takes no damage from any source." Run, stun, hide.
  • Letting the fire die at night. That is the one moment the Deer comes straight to camp.
  • Throwing logs into a level 3 fire. They barely move the bar; use coal and fuel canisters.
  • Going out at night without a flashlight. Without it you have no way to stop a chase.
  • Using code sites. Many sites list "codes" for Diamonds. We only list codes the developer posts, and we couldn't read the developer's channels, so we list none. Never type your password into a site that promises free Diamonds or Robux.

Is 99 Nights in the Forest OK for kids?

Mostly, yes. Roblox labels the game Minimal, its lowest maturity label, and lists only "Fear (Occasional/Mild)" and "Violence (Occasional/Mild)" as content descriptors. Roblox's creator docs say Minimal games are eligible for its Kids accounts for ages 5 to 8. The scary part is real, though: a monster hunts you at night. One fan wiki also says the developers drew on the real story of four children who survived 40 days in the Amazon after a 2023 plane crash; we could not confirm that on a developer channel.

What players are saying

Most players agree the game is built for a group. "99 nights CAN be fun with friends," one r/roblox user wrote in a thread about games people quit (u/it_later, Feb 4, 2026). Another said it is "not bad, especially with friends," then complained about teammates who hand out the chores (u/theysquawk, Jul 1, 2026):

Our take

Based on the sources above, the single most useful habit in 99 Nights in the Forest is to treat the campfire as the whole game for the first few days: fuel it, level it and be inside its light at night. The flashlight is your only answer to the Deer, and the four kids are both the story and the shortcut. Where the wikis disagree (class names and prices, the crafting station's name), check in game rather than trusting one guide, since the game was last updated on October 7, 2026.

How we checked this

We read the game's official description, server size, dates and player count, its developer group and its Roblox maturity label through a mirror of Roblox's own APIs on October 10, 2026. Mechanics come from three fan wikis, opened the same day, and are attributed in each sentence; a tip is only in the step list if at least one wiki states it directly. We could not read the developer's Discord, X or YouTube. Reddit quotes were read on the original threads. Last reviewed October 10, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you survive the first night in 99 Nights in the Forest? Keep the campfire burning and stay inside its light. Fan wikis agree the Deer will not enter the campfire's safe zone while the fire is lit. Craft a flashlight before dark so you can stun the Deer if it catches you outside, and cook a little food so your hunger meter doesn't run out.

Can you kill the Deer in 99 Nights in the Forest? No. Every fan wiki we checked says weapons do nothing to the Deer and it takes no damage from any source. You survive it instead: stay in the campfire light, stun it with a flashlight, break line of sight with trees and rocks, or climb somewhere high.

How many kids are there in 99 Nights in the Forest? There are four missing kids. Fan wikis say they are hidden in caves around the map, guarded by wolves and bears. Each rescue cuts the number of nights you still need to survive, which is why rescuing them is both the story and the fastest way to win.

How many players can play 99 Nights in the Forest together? Up to 25 players per server, according to Roblox's own game data checked on October 10, 2026. The developer's description starts with "Build a camp with friends," and splitting jobs like chopping, cooking and fueling the fire is much easier with a full group.

Is 99 Nights in the Forest scary for kids? A little. Roblox gives it a Minimal maturity label, its lowest, with occasional mild fear and occasional mild violence listed as content. The Deer chases players at night and can make younger kids jump, so it is a good one to try together first.

Are there 99 Nights in the Forest codes? Fan sites list codes for free Diamonds, but we could not read the developer's own Discord or X from our network on October 10, 2026. We only publish codes that a developer posts on its own channel, so we list none here. Avoid any site that asks for your password.
